Dyke March 2010: CALL FOR PERFORMERS ON STAGE
DEADLINE: MARCH 20 2010
Mission
The mission of the San Francisco Dyke March is to bring the dyke community together to be visible in a celebration of our diverse communities and to raise awareness of issues affecting all of us, strengthening an international perspective in our community. The Dyke March organizing committee advocates civil and social justice for dykes around the world.
The annual rally and march takes place on the Saturday of Pride weekend. The rally/cultural event showcases our communities’ artists, critical thinkers and political activists on this day when thousands of dykes take our space, proclaiming rights and demanding respect.
History of the Dyke March
In 1992, a group of San Francisco lesbians organized the first Dyke March during the national LGBT march in Washington, D.C. The following year, the same group organized the Dyke March in San Francisco, where approximately 10,000 women attended. The Dyke March now attracts 50,000 participants from around the world. For more information visit our website www.thedykemarch.org.
Play the Dyke March Stage
The Dyke March rally takes place from 3 – 7 pm, leading up to the March from the Mission to the Castro. We showcase dance, spoken word, and musical performances and are committed to a stage as diverse as our audience. The rally will showcase 6-8 acts. Please be advised, we do not accept male performers for the Dyke March stage.
Selected artist will be paid a performance stipend.
Individual Artist - $300
Groups/Bands (four or more individuals) - $600
(Please let us know if you are willing to participate/perform at a Dyke March fundraiser, any time between April and the end of June, pro bono. This does not guarantee a place on the rally stage though it is very valuable in making the Dyke March a reality and does get your information onto the Dyke March web site.)
Selected artists announced at the April 17th Fundraiser @ El Rio in SF.
